Third Semester[BCA] | Dec 2024 |
Paper Code: ITL 1001 | Subject : Computer Networks |
Time:3 Hours | Maximum Marks:60 |
Note: Attempt any Four Questions from Section A (each carrying 6 marks); any Two Questions from Section-B (each carrying 10 marks). Section C is compulsory (carrying 16 marks).
Section-A (attempt any Four Questions)
1. With a neatly labeled diagram, explain the OSI reference model. Give examples of each protocol operating at each level.
2. Write short notes on : a) Packet Switching b) Message Switching c) Circuit Switching
3. Explain the following: a) DNS b) DHCP
4. Differentiate between Bridges and Switches.
5. What are the different modes of transmission in data communication? Describe each mode, and provide examples of situations where each mode would be used.
SECTION – B (Attempt any Two Questions) |
|
6. a) A computer monitor has a resolution of 1200 by 1000 pixels. If each pixel uses 1024 colors, how many bits are needed to send the complete contents of a screen?
b) Given a file containing 1 million characters and a link speed of 56kbps. Calculate the transmission time required to transfer the file over the link. Explain the steps involved in your calculation.
7. a) Compare and contrast byte-stuffing and bit-stuffing. Which technique is used in byte-oriented protocols? Which technique is used in bit-oriented protocols?
b) Explain the Services provided by Point-2-Point (PPP) Protocol. Also, discuss its various components.
8. What is data encapsulation in the context of networking? Describe the process of data encapsulation and explain how it contributes to the integrity and efficiency of data transmission. Provide examples of protocols involved in each layer of the TCP/IP model and their role in data encapsulation.
SECTION-C is Compulsory
9. Explain the main functions of the data link layer in data communication network? Describe how it ensure framing, flow control, and error detection/correction. Provide examples of transport layer protocols and explain their specific roles in achieving these functions. |
